OCD (not what you think) ![]() OCD Have you seen it yet? The new government flag? It looks remarkably close to the Exxon or Mobil sign … I mean we are in an Oil Company Dictatorship these days are we not? They definitely dictate by the cost of gas whether I am going to see my family in Ohio or go to A.C. Moore for the 3rd time this week because I have a coupon. The coupon is not a savings when I spend the money I saved driving a half a mile! I hear crafters rethinking their shows because the gas prices (the OCD) would be too much. Basically the oil companies by their “practices” are dictating my life .. and I am frustrated! Ok, now I took economics in college .. I understand a little about supply and demand. But this commodity isn’t like silver and gold. The government can do something about it!. By the “size” of Americans these days carbo loaded, greasy , fatty and nasty foods I still believe have price supports and price ceilings put on them! Why is it that the price on those items only goes up because the price of getting it there went up? Last time I checked every fast food place in America has a “greater” demand than in the past and I can get a good greasy pizza for $5,$5,$5 or $4,$4,$4. Why isn’t the price of pizza out of universe? Gas is a product that we survive off of! Yes my theory of making gasoline so unobtainable that we all have to buy new cars, to bail out our car industry and raise our GNP looks to be a real possibility. But I don’t want to hear how we “greedy” Americans are the reason we are such despair. Wasn’t the government a “part” of all of this, overseeing it happen, and letting our country go at the “energy” obsession like gamebusters? We, sheep, believed in our shepherd that if it was okay with the government then it should be ok for us ! Now I a not absolving responsibility for the knowledge I now know .. but somehow I find it interesting that I, the everyday American, am now being blamed for what I didn’t know! So what do Americans do for activism? Now let me preface this with I believe truck drivers to be a vital part of our economy and I know that I wouldn’t have near the great products without them. BUT come on guys … driving around the White House to protest gas prices? OK…. Driving USES gas guys! .. I am sure there some pal of the oil companies is counting how many laps and saying “cha ching, cha ching” for every lap. Now what I want to know is would the ticket for obstructing traffic be worth more for the “cause” than using more gasoline to get the point across? Can you imagine how many tow trucks would be needed to tow 50 to 100 tractor trailers? And I would be sure to let it be the ones that have over priced government supplies on it! Paying the ticket? Send it to the congress people who refuse to do something about the gas prices! Do they not know that allowing this raping of our country is destroying it to the core! This is worse than ANY terrorist threat! People are losing their jobs which is forcing them to get government supplied medical insurance and food stamps. Those fortunate to still have jobs are now paying for those people, having to accommodate for rising prices on food, gas, and daily needs. Did I say daily needs? Not all of those inessential items which sit on shelves collecting dust, wasted products and money! In the meantime companies are adjusting their cost analysis to pass the costs on to people who can’t afford the current prices. The comment “I’ll wait till gas hits $4.00 before I start screaming,” is asinine because right now companies are trying to cut “fat” where there is none before their profit margin is affected. Companies are trimming the “meat” of their company.. their employees…in order to survive, folks. So your secure job today might be on the chopping block tomorrow when gas prices hit $4.00 a gallon. Personally I think anyone in government NOT fighting for the rights of Americans as strong as they did to protect the rights of pregnant pigs and putting in the Florida constitution should be “let go” just like the hundreds of thousands of Americans losing their jobs today. Give the job to a coupon clipping, budget balancing, and cost cutting individuals that care for a family of 4 with less than $40,000 a year and see what happens! And the rest of us…. WAKE UP! I saw the movie Lions for Lambs the other day and Robert Redford had the most provocative statement I have heard in ages… but sadly so true. He makes the comment to the new political science student that ,apathy of the American people is what the government thrives on so they can serve their own agendas! So … what are you willing to do about it? Me… I am writing this blog to hopefully spark some thought …writing my congress people ( and possibly going to their office), and whatever ways I can. I have already resigned to the possibility that I will have to be 90 to collect social security if at all, so I want to have a LIFE NOW, don’t you? We can’t afford to be so focused on today because at the rate it is going we are not going to able to afford our lives tomorrow! 2008-05-02 02:28:23 GMT
